Christmas24. December
Christmas is celebrated in Estonia on December 24, and this means that the wintertime transitions onto summertime - the days are starting to get longer and the nights shorter. The opposite is Jaanipäev. Christmas is a peaceful and spiritual time that Estonians spend with family and loved ones. You can find pork steak, blood sausages, potatoes, lingonberry jam, sauerkraut, jellied pork, potato salad with beet, and Christmas bread based on older traditions. Gingerbread, healthier alternatives to pork, such as chicken, are also considered newer foods, which have already become common Christmas food options today. In the past, the Christmas drink has been beer, which is sometimes relevant today, but often mulled wine, wine, and sometimes liqueur are also drunk. Photo credit: Visit Estonia

Vastlapäev47 days before Easter
Vastlapäev is a worldwide Christian holiday (Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Масленица), which takes place 47 days before Easter. Its traditions date back to ancient times and were once called the "Pig's Feet Holiday" because it was believed that if you ate pigs for that holiday, next year's pigs would be large and fat, which was an essential source of nutrients for the peasantry. On today's New Year's Eve, pea soup or similar bean soup, salted beans, and fresh cakes are usually eaten. The main activities are sledding and spinning, a children's toy made from pig bone. The dessert is a vastlakukkel, a pastry with jam and whipped cream. Photo credit: lasita.ee
