GraduationJune
Graduation from school is a milestone of extreme importance, the transition to a new stage of life, or rather, as they say, entry into adulthood. And the graduation party becomes the festive final chord of the long school stage. The ceremony is most often divided into two parts - official and solemn. At the official part, graduates are awarded certificates or diplomas. The ceremonial part is associated with a particular educational institution; it is often based on an entertainment program. As usual, in Estonia, a solemn ceremony takes place in the afternoon, and in the evening, they have a party where they dance, eat and drink. |
Midsummer day24. June
St. John's Day or Midsummer's Day is an ancient summer holiday, the most important holiday of the year. Midsummer Saturday (23rd June) and Midsummer's Day (24th June) are public holidays. On Midsummer Saturday Victory Day is celebrated in Estonia. No work is done on those days except essential operations. These days shops may close earlier than usual, so keep your eyes open. In the evening people gather together to celebrate and have fun, the most important light of the year, The Midsummer fire, is lit. Nowadays people gather with friends rather than family, but that tradition is still strong within the families. There are bands and caterers in the local celebrating place and police officers in bigger parties to control and avoid problems. The food consists of lots of fresh salads including potato salad, barbecue products and barley bread. Adults drink mostly alcohol - vodka, beer, sider, wine and youngsters drink berry juices. It is a time to celebrate, today the meaning is more celebratory and having a good time with your friends or family. |
